Tour Details

Focus: Birding, wildlife and scenery

Duration: 6 Nights.

Main Camps:

Mopane Main Camp (2 Nights).

Shingwedzi Main camp (2 Nights).

Punda Maria Main camp (2 Nights).

Mopane Main Camp is situated in the North Western region of the Kruger National Park. The camp itself does have a restaurant, shop and swimming pool facilities. The camp is situated in an area dominated by the Mopani tree. Due to the abundant browsing during the dry season this area is likely to yield good sightings of Elephant and Buffalo as well as a few of the rarer species of antelope such as Eland, Tsessebe and Roan antelope.

Shingwedzi Main Camp is situated in the North Eastern section of Kruger. The camp is fully equipped and situated along the banks of the Shingwedzi River, swimming pool and shop facilities are also available. It is a quiet camp and now know for game viewing but rather birding although, if you are lucky you may see Leopard.

Punda Maria Main Camp is the most unique and one of the oldest main camps in the Kruger. It is situated in the far North of Kruger. Restaurant and shop facilities are available. Due to the lack of roads as well as not having many visitors, the Punda area can be quiet but, the up side of that is that if you are lucky enough to spot an animal, you generally have the sighting to yourself. It is also close to Pafuri area, where you can visit the famous “Crookes corner” where the Levubu and Limpopo rivers meet. This is where the early ivory hunters used to cross into Zimbabwe. The birding in this area as well as the scenery is phenomenal.

Review:

A birders paradise really! I managed to tick so many lifers and being able to see the park in such a different light. The scenery up north of Kruger is just breath- taking and makes me love this country even more now having experienced it. We got wild dog while returning back to camp after an afternoon game drive, and a surprise Lion sighting of a lone male trying to hunt a zebra. Such an eventful 6 nights and i cannot recommend it enough if you are looking to tick plenty lifers off!
