    Day to day itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Cape Town

Today marks your arrival in Cape Town after a long flight. Upon landing, you can collect your rental car and drive to your hotel, nestled in a serene corner of the city, just under half an hour from the airport. Your accommodation awaits in a charming boutique hotel managed by an exceptional host. Bokaap, the neighborhood where you’ll be staying, exudes a cozy ambiance with its colorful houses and steep cobbled streets. While the city center is a mere 10-minute walk away, the vicinity of your hotel boasts an array of delightful cafes and restaurants. For a memorable dining experience, we highly recommend trying the restaurant at Hotel Charles, conveniently located on the same street as your hotel.

    Day 2: Ascend Table Mountain

Today offers an opportunity for independent exploration of Cape Town. Wander through the inviting center, adorned with bustling market halls, and immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant atmosphere. A visit to the renowned Table Mountain is a must-do on your itinerary. Stretching three kilometers, Table Mountain stands as one of the world’s oldest mountains. While hiking trails leading to the summit can pose a challenge, they are manageable with moderate fitness levels. Alternatively, you can ascend to the peak effortlessly via cable car. Once atop the plateau, revel in the beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage-listed nature reserve. Additionally, consider tackling Lion’s Head, a neighboring peak offering splendid views of Table Mountain, though we opted to leave this ascent for another time.

Day 3: Further Exploration of Cape Town

Today beckons for leisurely pursuits in Cape Town. Explore the enchanting streets of Bokaap, meander through the charming VA Waterfront harbor, or indulge in shopping for African souvenirs at the myriad of local shops. Relaxation awaits at one of the city’s inviting terraces, offering picturesque views. Don’t miss the opportunity to capture an iconic photo with Table Mountain framing the background. For a captivating excursion, embark on a boat trip from the Waterfront to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. Gain insights into the island’s history with a visit to Mandela’s former cell and engage with guides who once served time there. Another enticing day trip option is a visit to the Cape of Good Hope, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans converge. A highlight of this excursion is observing the vast penguin colony at Boulders Beach.

Day 4: Whale Watching in Hermanus

Continuing your journey from Cape Town, the next destination on your itinerary is the picturesque fishing village of Hermanus. Renowned as one of the best places in the world for whale watching, Hermanus offers an unforgettable opportunity to witness these majestic creatures up close. From July to November, the bay becomes a hub of activity as Southern Right Whales gather here to mate and give birth to their young.

With luck on your side, you may catch glimpses of these magnificent creatures from the shoreline, but the true thrill lies in embarking on a whale watching boat tour. Cruise out into the bay, where knowledgeable guides will lead you in search of these gentle giants. While the Southern Right Whale is the most commonly sighted species, you may also encounter Bryde’s and Humpback Whales during your excursion.

Hermanus boasts a unique feature: a whale announcer who signals the presence of whales in the bay by honking his horn. This charming tradition adds to the excitement of your whale watching experience. If your visit coincides with September, be sure to immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere of the annual Whale Festival, celebrating the return of these magnificent creatures.

Beyond whale watching, Hermanus offers a wealth of other activities to enjoy. Take leisurely strolls along scenic coastal paths, kayak in the tranquil waters, or tee off at world-class golf courses. With its natural beauty and abundance of attractions, Hermanus promises an enchanting coastal retreat.

    Traveling time : 2 Hours

Day 5 Wine tasting in Stellenbosch

Today, you will visit the vast wine offerings that South Africa has to offer. The most famous wine region is Stellenbosch. Everywhere you look you see vines and the mountainous surroundings are truly beautiful. We highly recommended a picnic at one of the most famous and oldest wineries in this area, Boschendal. You can order a basket of your choice in advance and choose a spot on the vast field under the trees with a picnic blanket and chairs on arrival. A walk around the grounds and a visit (for a fee) to the wine cellars is also a nice event. In the evening you sleep on the estate belonging to the vineyard, so you can enjoy the excellent wine and wood-fired pizzas in the cozy restaurant.

    Traveling time : 1.5 hours

Day 6 A ride on the wine tram

Before you drive on to Franschhoek today, it is nice to wander around through the cozy streets of Stellenbosch. The university town has nice shops, ice cream parlors and restaurants. The whole thing has a bit of an English feel to it. Upon arrival in Franschhoek you will see that this is also a very attractive and cozy town. It is very nice to stroll down the long street and see the many galleries and shops. In Franschhoek, just like in Stellenbosch, it is bursting with wineries and because it is of course not responsible to drink as a driver, they have introduced the wine tram in Franschhoek. Not only super handy, but also super fun. You can choose from several lines in a so-called hop-on hop-off tram and get off a maximum of six times and visit five different wineries.

    Traveling time : 30 Minutes

Day 7: Return to Cape Town

After a leisurely breakfast in Hermanus, it’s time to bid farewell to this charming coastal town and make your way back to Cape Town. Enjoy a scenic drive as you journey along the coastal route, soaking in the breathtaking views of the coastline and rolling hills.

As you make your way back towards Cape Town, consider making a stop at Spier Wine Estate for a delightful late lunch. Situated in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands, Spier offers a tranquil setting amidst vineyards and lush landscapes. Indulge in a sumptuous meal paired with exquisite wines, savoring the flavors of the region.

After lunch, continue your journey back to Cape Town, where you can reflect on the memorable experiences of your coastal adventure. As you return to the city, take the opportunity to revisit favorite spots or explore new attractions that you may have missed during your earlier stay.

Arriving back in Cape Town, settle into your accommodations and unwind after the day’s travels. Reflect on the highlights of your journey over a leisurely dinner, savoring the flavors of the region and reminiscing about the adventures shared. With more time in Cape Town, you have the opportunity to delve deeper into the city’s vibrant culture and explore its hidden gems.

Day 8: From Cape Town to Hoedspruit

Today marks the beginning of your journey from Cape Town to the safari haven of Hoedspruit. After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Cape Town International Airport, approximately an hour away. As you traverse the familiar landscapes, take in the sights and sounds of the Western Cape one last time.

Upon arrival at the airport, you’ll board a domestic flight bound for Hoedspruit. Upon touchdown at Hoedspruit Airport, collect your rental car and prepare to immerse yourself in the wild wonders of this safari capital.

Hoedspruit is renowned as the gateway to some of South Africa’s most iconic game reserves, with the famed Kruger National Park just a short distance away. Nestled amidst the beauty of the Lowveld, this town is surrounded by sprawling game parks teeming with diverse wildlife.

Settle into your comfortable lodge upon arrival, where warm hospitality and luxurious amenities await. Take a moment to unwind and soak in the tranquil ambiance of the African bushveld, anticipating the unforgettable safari experiences that lie ahead.

As you acclimate to your new surroundings, let the anticipation build for the adventures awaiting you in the heart of the African wilderness. Get ready to embark on thrilling game drives, guided bush walks, and encounters with the Big Five as you delve into the natural wonders of Hoedspruit and its surrounding reserves.

    Traveling time : 3 Hours

    Day 9: On Safari

Prepare for an exhilarating day as you set out on safari in search of Africa’s iconic Big Five. Accompanied by an experienced ranger, embark on a walking safari in a private park, immersing yourself in the sights and sounds of the bush. Your ranger will expertly track signs of wildlife, leading you through the wilderness in pursuit of thrilling encounters. Keep your senses sharp as you traverse the terrain, as it’s not uncommon to come face to face with a majestic herd of elephants. Rest assured, your ranger is well-versed in wilderness etiquette, ensuring a safe and memorable experience for all. After an unforgettable day in the bush, unwind and reflect on your adventures at one of Hoedspruit’s cozy restaurants, savoring the flavors of the region.

Day 10: Self-Tracking in Kruger National Park

Today, venture into the legendary Kruger National Park for a self-guided safari adventure. With the dawn of a new day, set out early in your rental car to explore the vast expanses of this renowned game reserve. The Kruger Park is South Africa’s crown jewel, boasting an incredible diversity of wildlife and landscapes.

As you traverse the park’s network of roads, keep your eyes peeled for the famous Big Five—elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo, leopard, and lion—as well as an array of other fascinating species, including impalas, kudu, giraffes, zebras, and more. Experience the thrill of encountering these magnificent creatures up close in their natural habitat, capturing unforgettable moments on camera.

As the afternoon draws near, begin your journey back to the park exit, allowing time to soak in the sights and sounds of the bush along the way. Keep a lookout for Casper, the legendary white lion who roams this part of the Kruger Park with his brothers. Reflect on the day’s adventures as you return to Hoedspruit, cherishing the memories of your self-guided safari in one of Africa’s most iconic wilderness areas.

    Day 11: Panorama Route Adventure

Embark on an unforgettable journey from Hoedspruit to Graskop, traversing the scenic Panorama Route. Centuries of erosion have sculpted the landscape, creating awe-inspiring rock formations, cascading waterfalls, and hidden caverns along the way.

As you wind your way through the route, be prepared to be mesmerized by the breathtaking vistas that unfold before you. Pause periodically to admire some of the route’s most iconic natural wonders, each offering its own unique charm and beauty.

One such stop along the route is the Three Rondavels, three distinctively shaped mountains that resemble traditional tribal huts. Marvel at their majestic presence and soak in the surrounding panoramic views.

Continue your journey to Bourke’s Luck Potholes, where the Blyde River has sculpted intricate rock sculptures over millions of years. Wander along the pathways and marvel at the mesmerizing patterns and formations created by the forces of nature.

No visit to the Panorama Route is complete without a stop at God’s Window, a vantage point offering sweeping views of the lush landscapes below. On clear days, you may even catch a glimpse of Mozambique in the distance, adding to the sense of wonder and awe.

As you journey through the Panorama Route, allow yourself to be enchanted by the raw beauty of the South African wilderness, capturing memories that will last a lifetime.

    Traveling time : 4 Hours

Day 12: Safari Adventure in a Private Game Park

After your exhilarating explorations in Kruger National Park, continue your safari adventure by spending the night in a tented camp nestled within a private game park. Upon arrival, receive a warm welcome with a refreshing drink before settling into your accommodations.

With excitement building, embark on an evening safari in an open safari vehicle accompanied by an experienced ranger. This ranger-guided excursion offers the best chance of encountering the Big Five in their natural habitat. As you journey through the bush, your ranger may venture off the beaten track in search of elusive game, providing a truly immersive and authentic safari experience.

As the sun begins to set, pause for a memorable sundowner in a clearing amidst the wilderness, toasting to the beauty of the African bush. Witnessing a South African sunset on a clear day is an unforgettable experience that will leave a lasting impression.

After the evening drive, gather around a crackling campfire in the boma for a delicious dinner under the starlit sky, sharing stories of your safari adventures with fellow travelers.

Rise early the next morning to embark on your second game drive of the stay, when the predators are most active. After a hearty breakfast, bid farewell to the game reserve as you prepare to journey to your next destination.

    Day 13: Dullstroom

For your penultimate stop, travel to the charming town of Dullstroom nestled in the picturesque green hills. Situated at a relatively high altitude, Dullstroom offers cooler temperatures and abundant opportunities for trout fishing. Explore the town center, where you’ll find quaint restaurants and coffee shops serving delicious dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Browse the Art and Craft shops for unique African souvenirs to commemorate your journey.

    Day 14: Return Journey

Embark on the final leg of your adventure as you travel from Dullstroom to Johannesburg airport, approximately a 2.5-hour drive away. Return your rental car at ‘The Almond Tree’ orphanage before being transferred to the airport for your departure flight. As you bid farewell to South Africa, carry with you cherished memories of an unforgettable journey through this captivating land.

    Overnight Kruger Tour

Early last year we booked a custom safari with My Africa as being in Canada we needed someone in the area that we knew and trusted. We have found over the years, find a local safari company, not some international tour company. We booked an 11 day safari of the Kruger National Park. All was fine until the flooding in January. We wish to thank My Africa and Meg in particular for keeping in touch and changing our bookings as the situation in the Park changed daily. We were able to complete our safari with our finish in Olifants Camp in a magical river front rondavel. Our guide, Harrison spotted wildlife that even with binos, we had to struggle. The female leopard in the tree with a cub stands out. Harrison was punctual, polite, friendly and assisted us with any requirement. Excellent driver, respectful of the wildlife and other vehicles.

    Epic Quad Bike Experience

Took my kids here and what an experience! The views riding through the bush are absolutely breathtaking, pure untouched African nature all around you. It felt like a real adventure from the moment we arrived.

Safety was clearly a priority, helmets and hair nets on before anyone got near a quad, which I really appreciated as a mum. The quads themselves were in great condition, well maintained and perfectly suited for the terrain.

The guide led the way at a comfortable pace, keeping a close eye on all of us throughout. My kids felt safe, confident and had the time of their lives. Highly recommended for any family visiting the area!

    ps: combine it with ziplining!

    Sunrise Safari with MY AFRICA

We recently had a couple of Safari’s with MY AFRICA while staying in Hoedspruit and we were blown away by the level of customer service, even at 5am in the morning. We had amazing sightings of wildlife, saw 4 of the big 5 in a space of an hour as we did Pridelands as well as Blue Canyon wich are both big five properties but obviously this can vary. The guides are very knowledgeable, incredibly attentive and made sure all our needs were met! EXCELLENT !!! The safari exceeded my expectations in terms of experience. You will never go wrong booking a safari with MY AFRICA❤️🐾🐆🌿

    Best Quad bike Trails

A fantastic location for quad biking through rugged nature with a guide leading the way. Everything well organised, access code via WhatsApp, then a bumpy ride to the quads. Quick briefing, helmets on, and off we go. The guide keeps a good eye on the group, and I made sure to leave a big gap at the back so I could open it up a bit, haha. A short break at the zip line platform along the way, and we did that one a few days later too. Highly recommended!

    A Christmas to remember

We traveled SA for Christmas. Meg helped us to organise everything before landing, making the whole experience so smooth and stress free. We absolutely loved everything planned for us. I think we were spoiled with the service from start to finish – between fully organising our itinerary, the collections to and from everything and the tours themselves. Meg always checked in to ensure we had a great day and to enquire if there was anything else we needed. She went over and above for us to make sure we had the best trip!

Harrison and our other tour guides were the best! So knowable and the best fun! You could tell they just loved what they do. We saw so much and learned so much from them. They had blankets and treats for us along the way. And the safari jeeps were super clean and spacious! We also loved how all of the guides knew all of the locals which was so lovely to see – how everyone is one big community!

Our Christmas with My Africa was one we will always remember. I couldn’t recommend Meg and the team more. I’d love to do it all over again!
