Day 2: Travel to Swaziland

After a day of breathtaking views and natural wonders, it’s time to say goodbye to South Africa and head to eSwatini (formerly Swaziland). This small kingdom is completely surrounded by South Africa, but it offers a completely different experience that takes you back in time.

In eSwatini you will discover a more rural side of Africa, with extremely friendly people and a beautiful mountainous landscape. As you travel through the country, you will see typical African huts, children in uniforms on their way to school and women carrying their groceries on their heads. Along the way there are various markets where you can buy all kinds of fresh vegetables, fruits and local souvenirs.

You will stay in a Beehive, a traditional bee house made of straw. This simple accommodation offers a unique experience and gives you a taste of how the Swazi live. Although the facilities are basic, staying in the Beehive is a fun and authentic way to experience the traditional lifestyle of eSwatini.

Day 3-4: Exploring eSwatini’s Harmless Wildlife

Today, you’ll embark on a special discovery tour through the eSwatini Nature Reserve. This nature reserve is known for its abundance of small game, such as zebras, antelopes and warthogs. Since there are no dangerous game in the park, you can leave your car behind and explore the beautiful surroundings on foot or by mountain bike. This gives you the chance to wander through the park at your own pace, experience nature at your own pace and get closer to the flora and fauna than ever before.

Want to experience something extra special? You can also choose to ride through the picturesque hilly landscape on horseback. This experience is accessible to both beginners and experienced riders and offers a unique way to explore the landscape.

Day 5: Discovery Tour around St. Lucia

Today you have the freedom to explore St. Lucia at your own pace. The area around St. Lucia offers many fascinating activities and excursions. A boat safari on the picturesque wetland river is highly recommended. During this safari you will have the chance to admire the impressive herds of hippos that call St. Lucia home. This area is home to an estimated 800 hippos, as well as approximately 1200 Nile crocodiles and a diverse variety of bird species, including flamingos. We have made sure that this unique experience is already included in your program, so that you are assured of a place on the small-scale boat and can fully enjoy this special safari.

In addition to the boat safari, you can also take a car or guided safari in the nearby Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park. This park is famous for its large populations of elephants and lions, but especially for the endangered black rhino. Thanks to the Save the Rhino project, the park is home to 20% of the endangered black rhinos, offering an excellent opportunity to spot these majestic animals, as well as the remaining four of the Big Five. The Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park is a must-see for any safari enthusiast and offers an unforgettable wilderness experience.

Day 6: Ocean Safari and Free Time in St. Lucia

On your last day in St. Lucia, you can choose to spend a relaxing morning on the beach, stroll through the charming shopping streets of the village, or embark on an exciting ocean safari. The ocean safari is a great way to see the majestic whales that frequent the coastal waters of St. Lucia. The spectacle of these colossal marine animals emerging from the water is an impressive experience that you will not soon forget. As the sea can be quite rough here at times, it is advisable to bring a travel tablet.

Day 7: The Drakensberg

Today you will travel to one of South Africa’s most impressive natural areas: the Drakensberg. The approximately 5-hour drive takes you via the scenic Midlands Meander route, a journey that takes you through a breathtaking landscape of rolling hills, green valleys and picturesque villages. This route is known for its beautiful nature, including several waterfalls that form a photogenic backdrop to your journey.

The Drakensberg, located on the border with Lesotho, is the highest mountain range in South Africa, with impressive rock formations rising up to 3500 meters above sea level. The highest peak in the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park is the Thabana Ntlenyana, with a height of 3482 meters. The rugged beauty of these mountains, with their steep cliffs and vast valleys, offers a breathtaking panorama and a fascinating environment to explore.

Please note that it can be colder in the Drakensberg due to the altitude, so make sure you bring a warm jumper and other suitable clothing. After a day of travelling and exploring, relax in the evening by a cozy fire, with a glass of wine in hand, and enjoy the peaceful, scenic surroundings.

Day 8: Exploring the Drakensberg

The Drakensberg is renowned for its rich cultural and natural heritage. One of the highlights of this area is the ancient rock art of the San, the original inhabitants of the region. Over 500 sites contain these historic works of art, which provide insight into the lives and spiritual world of the Bushmen. These paintings are a fascinating and educational experience not to be missed.

Also known as Jo’burg or Joburg, this city is a dynamic metropolis with a rich history and vibrant culture.

Depending on your onward travel plans, you can continue your South African adventure here or take an international flight to another tropical destination. Johannesburg offers excellent connections to popular holiday destinations such as Mauritius and Zanzibar.
